Carleton & St.Olaf meeting!!!!
We should decide on a meeting time to discuss further details on the upcoming conference. Could we meet next week! This week at Olaf we'll discuss the conference. Cool let us know! (We can use this blog or contact a presente member)
Groups:
St. Olaf & Carleton collaboration
Hey Blanca...Here's a ton of info:
Ok, so today during our LASO meeting we discussed the conference and there seems to be a lot of interest in the group. I'm pretty sure that almost every person in the meetings signed up on a list saying that they would like to attend. We are currently trying to figure out the details in terms of finances and what not...but I think meeting up with you guys would be great because we may be able to coordinate things to make it easier for both groups. What works for you guys?
On a different note, this thursday, Lupe Ontiveros will be at CASA for a meet and greet since she will be our convocation speaker on Friday. There will be food and great discussion so let Presente know in case they want to stop by CASA or convo. The meet and greet will be thurs @ 7pm @ CASA. Convocation is Friday @ 10:50-11:50.
****IDEA***** maybe if you guys would like to come to the meet and greet we can go ahead and meet a little bit earlier than 7 to discuss the conference, that way we kill two birds with one stone******
Just in case people don't know who she is:
Award-winning actress, producer, activist, and visionary Lupe
Ontiveros is a woman who makes a difference. She has appeared on
stage, screen and television, and her role in *Desperate
Housewives* made her the only Latina nominated for an Emmy in
2005. But acting is Ontiveros* second career. A graduate of Texas
Woman*s University, she spent 18 years as a social worker in East
Los Angeles and Compton where she worked with the Head Start program, senior citizens and developmentally disabled children. It was during this time that she became involved with issues involving women and education. She established a development consulting service to assist corporate America in funding nonprofit organizations that address the issue of domestic violence. In addition, she produced *Una Vez Al
Ano Para toda Una Vida* (Once a Year for a Lifetime), an award-winning educational film focusing on the need for breast cancer awareness among Latinas.
LASO is also planning our main events for "Hispanic Heritage Month" they include: Day of the Dead Celebration, a Banquet (celebrating African influence in Latin American countries), and Latin Heat (a party). I'll keep you posted on the details as they come. They will all take place Nov. 2-3.
Ok...I think that's all for now. Keep us posted on events over at Olaf. :)
