Academic Technology Consultant

 The University of St. Thomas, Information Resources and Technology department seeks an Academic Technology Consultant (ATC) to support the School of Law and the Center for Business Excellence. This position plays an integral part in these departments by acting as the faculty and staff members' point of contact for technology support (including desktop, lab, classroom, and audio visual). Through their work with faculty and staff, the ATC becomes an expert in the technology needs of the discipline.
The person in this position will manage troubleshooting, problem resolution, and maintenance to assigned workstations and peripherals; provide and/or coordinate technology support for academic-discipline related events, such as conferences; manage classrooms and/or academic discipline-specific labs where appropriate, including workstations and associated software.
This position acts as the onsite client support liaison to Information Resources and Technologies; works to infuse information technologies into the areas served; provides consultation to faculty and staff, helping to ensure that they understand the technology available to them and can utilize that technology in support of teaching and learning.   Qualifications: equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, or a closely related field and two years of professional level experience providing information systems customer support. Event support experience a plus.
We are looking for candidates with knowledge of MS Windows and Macintosh platforms (hardware and software); demonstrated expertise with a wide variety of software, including productivity tools (word-processors, spreadsheets, database construction), Blackboard Course and Content Management Systems and uses, experience in supporting baseline academic needs using technology, techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, in person and over the telephone.
The successful candidate will have skill in working with diverse subgroups in translating their spoken needs into technological support; using initiative and independent judgment; preparing clear and concise documentation; strong ability to organize, prioritize, reprioritize and adapt in a "guided" environment with minimal direct supervision; excellent client service skills, communication ability and attention to detail; excellent problem solving skills.
